چکیده

In order to study the possible alteration of arterial walls in relation to the genetic desposition of stroke, the physical characteristics of the aortas in stroke-prone SHR (SHRSP) and Kyo: Wister (WK), which was the origin of SHR, were investigated previously and was reported that the aorta of SHRSP was more brittle than those of WK (Jap Heart J 16: 293, 1975). We modified the technique to determine load-elongation curves and investigated the alteration of physical characteristics in the aortas of SHRSP and WK at various ages.

Brain nitric oxide synthase activity in normal, hypertensive, and stroke-prone rats.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Nitric oxide-mediated cerebral vasodilation is altered in spontaneously hypertensive stroke-prone rats. Stroke predisposition in this strain could be related to a genetic defect of brain nitric oxide synthase, the enzyme responsible for nitric oxide production. We tested the hypothesis that brain nitric oxide synthase activity is altered in spontaneously hypertensive stro...

Lipid bilayer in genetic hypertension.

Membrane microviscosity, phospholipid composition, and turnover were measured in cultured vascular smooth muscle cells isolated from mesenteric arteries of stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive and age-matched, normotensive Wistar-Kyoto rats. Membrane microviscosity, measured with fluorescence polarization, revealed greater microviscosity (lower fluidity) of the membranes isolated from smooth...

Analysis of cerebrovascular sympathetic nerve density in relation to stroke development in spontaneously hypertensive rats.

Previous studies have shown that elevating the K+ levels from 0.75% to 2.11% in the diet of stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats significantly retards the development of stroke and increases their lifespan. On the other hand, stroke-resistant spontaneously hypertensive rats fail to develop stroke even if they are fed the low-K+ version of this diet. Since sympathetic nerves surrounding ...

Lymphocyte abnormalities in three types of hypertension in the rat.

Lymphocyte number and weight and their sodium and potassium contents and net passive fluxes were measured in spontaneously hypertensive stroke-prone rats, deoxycorticosterone acetate-treated rats, and two-kidney, one clip renal hypertensive rats. Wistar-Kyoto rats were used as controls for the spontaneously hypertensive stroke-prone rats, and normal intact Sprague-Dawley rats were used as contr...

Blood Vessels/Endothelium Increased Activation of Stromal Interaction Molecule-1/Orai-1 in Aorta From Hypertensive Rats A Novel Insight Into Vascular Dysfunction

Disturbances in the regulation of cytosolic calcium (Ca ) concentration play a key role in the vascular dysfunction associated with arterial hypertension. Stromal interaction molecules (STIMs) and Orai proteins represent a novel mechanism to control store-operated Ca entry. Although STIMs act as Ca sensors for the intracellular Ca stores, Orai is the putative pore-forming component of Ca releas...
